Moped & Motorcycle
Moped and motorcycle rentals are not common in Hawaii, but are available in some tour-
ist resort areas. Surprisingly, they can be more expensive to rent than cars. Rental mo-
peds cost from $35/175 per day/week, while motorcycles start around $100/400 per day/
week, depending on the make and model; a sizeable credit-card deposit is usually re-
quired.
Road Rules
» You can legally drive a moped in Hawaii with a valid driver's license issued by your
home state or country. Motorcyclists need to have a specially endorsed motorcycle li-
cense.
» The minimum age for renting a moped is 16; for a motorcycle it's 21.
» State law requires mopeds to be ridden by one person only and prohibits their use on
sidewalks and freeways.
» Mopeds must always be driven in single file and may not be driven at speeds above
30mph.
Safety Tips
» Helmets are not legally required for anyone 18 years or older, but rental agencies often
provide them free - use 'em.
