Kaumualiʻi Hwy borders the coastline while Kekaha Rd, the town's main drag, lies
parallel and a few blocks inland. All you'll find in town are a post office and a couple of
stores. At its eastern end, Kekaha Rd and Kaumualiʻi Hwy meet near the Kikiaola Small
Boat Harbor, a state harbor with a launch ramp.
POLIHALE: DEPARTURE POINT
A massive expanse of beach - the end of one of the longest (15 miles) and widest
(300 ft) in the state - Polihale is as mystical as it is enchanting. Loosely translated
as 'home of the underworld,' Hawaiian belief holds Polihale as the place where
souls depart forPo(the Hawaiian afterworld). The cliffs at the end of the beach are
home to ancient Hawaiian ruins constructed over the ocean as the jumping-off
place for spirits.
