$140; ) An appealing, off-the-grid retreat owned by one of the Robinson family
descendants. You're still close to Waimea town, on the quiet side of a sugar plantation
that's part of a greater 40,000 acres of agricultural land. The lone cottage features a king
bed, kitchenette, private hot tub, BBQ and cowboys riding by on horses. There's a min-
imum two-night stay.

( 338-1107; www.thewestinn.com ; 9690 Kau- mauliʻi Hwy; r $149; ) This brand-new
inn set right across from Waimea Theater offers good value, spacious rooms with queen
beds, high ceilings, granite counter tops, flat screens, microwave, mini fridge and wi-fi.
The decor won't win any awards, but that's nit-picking. Laid-back management will
gladly point out local surf breaks.

Situated in the heart of town, these suites and cottages were recently redone and feature
clawfoot tubs and other antique furnishings. The two upstairs suites have their own
lounge areas and the very reasonably priced two-bedroom cottages have a more modern
decor. They also have a few vacation rentals in town, which they book for long-term
stays.

11am-5pm) At this roadside fusion taqueria tortillas are stuffed with wasabi-coated or
Cajun-dusted seared ahi, fresh cabbage and rice. Or, if it's your pleasure, have the same
trick done with tofu or teriyaki chicken instead. Service and vibe are perfectly sunny.
