You can smell the savory, smoky goodness as soon as the bells on the swinging
front door announce your presence. In addition to local spices - all of which are pack-
aged and shipped straight from the store - they also do creams and oils, wood products,
nuts and chocolate, teapots and natural sodas. It's a delicious browse.

Puahina Moku o Kauaʻi
CLOTHING
(
335-9771; 4545 Kona Rd; 11am-4pm Mon-Wed, 11am-4pm & 6-8:30pm Fri)
With an eye
for recognizing the need for traditional Hawaiian motifs fused with contemporary clothes
(mostly for women), you'll find wearable keepsakes here. Look for originally designed
shirts, skirts and tops adorning native
lauaʻe
and
ulu
(both symbolizing 'growth in excel-
lence').
Amy-Lauren's Gallery
GALLERY
(
335-2827;
www.amylaurensgallery.com
; 3890 Hanapepe Rd; 11am-5pm Mon-Fri, to 9pm Fri)
Here's a chance to buy originals instead of giclée, though the latter are usually more af-
fordable. This ambitious gallery, owned by a rather savvy young entrepreneur, doesn't
necessarily deliver high art (they'd rather sell stuff), but in addition to tropical impres-
sionist wannabes, they show poppier, livelier landscapes and portraiture than you'll find
elsewhere in Hanapepe.

‑

does the rest. Expect a 24-hour turnaround.
