Plantation Gardens Restaurant & Bar

; 2253 Poʻipu Rd, Kiahuna Plantation; appetizers $8-13, mains
$22-30; 5:30am-9pm)
Set in a historic plantation house, this restaurant is lovely
without trying too hard. The menu is mercifully concise and features locally grown in-
gredients, kiawe (a relative of the mesquite tree) grilling for a rich, smoky flavor and lots
of fresh seafood. Lit by tiki torches at night, the setting is ideal for large gatherings.
Casa di Amici
ITALIAN $$$
over-looked due to an obscure location and chipped weatherbeaten front porch, this res-
taurant is an unpretentious gem. The chef focuses on using the highest quality ingredi-
ents, from locally grown greens to black truffles from Italy to homemade sausage. The
menu's traditional Italian pastas and meats are joined by multicultural standouts such as
the grilled miso-ginger ahi and paella risotto. Service can be spotty.
Red Salt
FUSION $$$
$$$
specialize in Hawaiian fusion dishes like pan-seared opah with king crab fries and a
sake-spiked coconut broth, and a seared ahi plated with edamame cilantro risotto. Excel-
lent sushi and sashimi are served in the elegant lounge on Friday and Saturday, and
there's always that root beer float for dessert. Valet parking is free and they do breakfast
too.
Beach House Restaurant

11am- 10pm)
An iconic spot for a sunset splurge. Lunch is simple (think stir-fries and
grilled fish sandwiches), but dinner is no joke. Start with ahi
poke
, and a Kauaʻi beet
salad sprinkled in guava salt and truffle oil, then
grind
a wasabi-crusted, miso-marinated
or macadamia-butter-sautéed fresh catch. It's an institution for a reason.
