gallery of paintings and drawings by island artists, fine jewelry (including Niʻihau shell
necklaces) and fun collectibles like handpainted walking sticks and some rather fabulous
antique masks. The shop specializes in custom framing using Hawaiian hardwoods such
as koa and kamani.
Pohaku T's CLOTHING
( 742-7500; www.pohaku.com ; 3430 Poʻipu Rd; 10am-8pm Mon-Sat, to 6pm Sun) This well-
stocked shop specializes in Kauaʻi-made clothing, crafts and island-themed tees and
tanks. Signature shirt designs feature classic island themes (petroglyphs, honu and navig-
ational maps) on stonewashed or overdyed colors. Cotton aloha shirts are locally hand-
sewn yet affordable.

Getting There & Away
From the west, Koloa Rd (Hwy 530), which runs between Lawaʻi and Koloa, is the best
way in and out. From Lihuʻe, take the scenic Maluhia Rd (Hwy 520) through the en-
chanting Tree Tunnel .

Poʻipu

Poʻipu (which ironically translates as 'completely overcast' - don't worry, it isn't) is
world renowned for its easy-access beaches and is somewhat drier and sunnier than the
North Shore. But it's not just the climate that differs. While the north has a wilder feel -
