( 800-325-5701, 826-0002; www.parrishkauai.com ; 5-7107 Kuhio Hwy; per night $345-395; )
One of the more unique rentals in the area, this one-story, mostly bamboo, ranch-style
home is stilted about 25ft high in the trees offering sea views from the lanai. There are
two bedrooms, two bathrooms, wi-fi, a fat flat screen with premium channels, an open
kitchen and bamboo beamed ceilings. It's quite something.
Hale Oli VACATION RENTAL $$$
$$$
( 826-6585; www.oceanfrontrealty.com ; 7097 Alimihi Rd; 2 br per night/week $275/1650)
Perched on stilts with nothing but greenery between the front lanai and HaŹ»ena's jutting
mountains, and a Hawaiiana-meets-zen decor inside. The bathroom is compulsively
clean and the back lanai has a spacious hot tub offering starry and foamy nights and a
sliver of an ocean view.
Hanalei Colony Resort CONDO HOTEL $$$
$$$
( 826-6235, 800-628-3004; www.hcr.com ; 5-7130 Kuhio Hwy; 2br from $275;
) It
would be difficult to find a better location for a resort - this is the only one west of
Princeville. Even if studios and larger condo units are scattered in several exceedingly
charmless stucco out buildings, they are arced along an exquisite beach and bay, and the
interiors are bright and updated. Walk-in rates drop to a reasonable $236.

Mediterranean Gourmet MEDITERRANEAN $$$
( 826-9875; www.kauaimedgourmet.com ; 7132 Kuhio Hwy, Hanalei Colony Resort; lunch $12-17,
dinner $20-35, luau per person $70; 11am-3pm, 4:30-8:30pm; ) A taste of the Mediter-
ranean literally on the Pacific (if the windows weren't there you'd get ocean mist on your
face), this fish out of water offers dated ele-gance and an eclectic range of dishes from
rosemary rack of lamb and stuffed grape leaves to pistachio-crusted ahi.
Be sure to leave room for dessert. Think baklava or cheesecake and a cup of muddy
Turkish coffee. There's live music most nights and a luau on Tuesdays.
