Wainiha General Store SELF-CATERING $
(5-6600 Kuhio Hwy; 10am-dusk) If you've left Hanalei and need a few items, don't pan-
ic. The locally christened 'Last Chance General Store' offers beach necessities such as
sunscreen, snorkel gear and basic picnic snack items, as well as a kiss of fresh produce.
If you're hiking the Na Pali Coast, buy an extra bottle of water.

7 Artists GALLERY
(5-6607 Kuhio Hwy, Wainiha; 10am-4pm) A gallery of local painters, a photographer and a

Haʻena
Remote, resplendent and idyllic, this is where the road ends amid lava pinnacles, lush
forest and truly spectacular beaches. It's also the site of controversy, as many of the lux-
ury homes on the point were built on top of ancient Hawaiian burial grounds ( ʻiwi
kupuna ). In 2007 this topic was brought to the attention of the media, following more
mobilization of the Hawaiian community, which has continued a program of peaceful
civil disobedience. No Kauaʻi adventure is complete without a drive to the end of road
and at least a short hike along the roadless Na Pali Coast.
