( 828-1955; www.islandsoap.com ; 2484 Keneke St, Kong Lung Center; 9am-8pm) Though
there are several of these shops on Kauaʻi, this is the most unique on the island, as the
soap is made in-house. It's a great place to pick up gifts for your beloved (and envious)
mainlanders.

ward, but they do offer a nice array of classic tropical dresses. Their collection of elegant

Kalihiwai
POP 717
Sandwiched between Kilauea and ʻAnini, Kalihiwai ('water's edge' in Hawaiian) is a
hidden treasure that is easy to pass by. The main indication that it's on the mauka (in-
land) side is Kalihiwai Bridge, which curves dramatically after an abundance of towering
albesia trees. And if you haven't exhaled that deep 'thank God I'm here' breath yet, this
is the stretch of road that will inspire sweet ecstasies. Most venture here to discover the
remote beach, backed by weeping pines blessed with a sandy bottom and a thick slab of
golden sand tucked between two scrubby cliffs. It's an ideal frolicking spot for sun-
bathing, sandcastle building and, swells permitting, swimming, bodyboarding and surf-
ing along the cliff on the east side.
