There are a couple of hostels and resorts within walking distance of downtown Kapaʻa.
Most B&Bs and inns in the area require a vehicle.
Honuea Hostel

) Kauaʻi's best hostel is eat-off-the-floor clean. Private rooms are set off from the
dorms, share a bathroom and are graced by tasteful murals that add color and character.
Bunk beds in the dorms are brand new, and deluxe private rooms have access to the com-
munal kitchen and TV room after hours, as well as a private bathroom.
Kauai Beach House Hostel

of hostels, what with the ramshackle bunks and courtyard. The private rooms are better
maintained and sleep two, but they also share bathrooms. Still, there's a communal kit-
chen and it is well located under the trees and on the beach.

Green Coconut Studio

with windows (and a wraparound veranda), this fantastically airy studio allows spectacu-
lar coastal views and cooling cross-breezes. The layout makes great use of space, allow-
ing for a comfy satellite-TV setup, and a kitchenette with full-sized fridge and the gamut
of appliances. There's a $100 cleaning fee for brief stays.
