Eraser Tool
The Eraser tool and its neighbor tools act in a special way with a 3D object.
The concept behind using the Eraser tool is that its does not erase the object
itself; instead, it erases the texture applied to the object or the layer that is
used as a texture for the object. Here's how to use the Magic Eraser tool to
optimize the 3D object layer:
1. Open the Photoshop document Label.psd.
2. From the 3D top menu, choose New Shape from Layer > Soda Can.
3. The label layer will form the texture of the soda can. Now we need to
remove the white background of the layer to show the object's main
difusion color.
4. Select the Magic Eraser tool and then click the space outside the main
label. This will erase the white area around the object.
Along the same lines, most of the 2D tools afect only the texture of the 3D
object or the layer that is used to create the 3D object. However, the mesh of
the 3D object itself is not afected with these tools.
