In-Depth Information
It is a cross-3D ile exchange format. Many major applications support the
Collada format and allow iles to be exchanged with this format.
You can export 3D models as the DAE format from 3D applications such as
3D Studio Max, Maya, Cinema 4D, Poser, Blender, and Google SketchUp. This
format is also used in developing 3D games and game models.
The Collada DAE ile format is also important because it is used in the built-in
3D shapes in Photoshop. One of the new assets in Photoshop is the ability to
create 3D shapes from 2D layers. In this case, Photoshop uses the 2D layer as
a texture map for the 3D shapes, such as the 3D cube, sphere, pyramid, 3D
hat, 3D can, and so on.
Adobe Photoshop can read this format as and lists it in the 3D shapes in the
3D menu. This format is one of the recommended formats for integrating
your 3D models and objects with a Photoshop project.
When you work with 3D in Photoshop and build your project, you can
output the inal result as a 3D ile by exporting it as a 3D Collada DAE ile.
U3D
The Universal 3D format (U3D) is another standard format that is widely used
in the 3D CAD industry. U3D is the accepted format for Adobe Acrobat,
where you can embed 3D content into a PDF ile and control it with the 3D
control tools in Adobe Acrobat.
However, you can use 3D models and scenes created or modiied in
Photoshop by exporting them in the U3D format and embedding them in
Adobe Acrobat to have 3D content in the inal Adobe PDF ile. You can easily
navigate the inal iles through the 3D control tools in Adobe Acrobat Reader,
which support 3D content display.
KMZ
This format is a compressed version of the KML Google Earth iles. You can
also use this format when working with Google SketchUp modeling, as you
can export your SketchUp models in the KMZ format and import them to
Photoshop. KMZ is fundamentally a Collada ile format and is a wrapper for
the DAE format.
Importing 3D Objects
As seen previously, most of the formats are binary formats that allow the
easy exchange of 3D iles between applications. Thus most of these formats
are available in many 3D applications, such as 3ds Max, which allows you to
export 3D models in the OBJ and DAE formats.
