Importing a File to Flash as Video
The other method to import 3D Photoshop animation is by exporting it as a
video animation from Photoshop. The image sequence is more suitable for
banner animation and animation resources that include a low number of
animated frames; the video animation is more suitable for large animations.
The default video format for Flash is FLV; iles in this format can be imported
from Photoshop through the Render Video dialog box. Flash supports a
wide range of video formats, but FLV is commonly used because it displays
video at a low size and high quality. It is one of the best formats to use for
web video.
There are three main methods for working with video in Flash: embedded,
progressive, and streaming.
Embedded Video
The embedded video is the oldest method for importing video inside
Flash—and the least eicient method. The only advantage of this method is
that it includes the video in the Library and Timeline. However, you can work
with the video as any symbol in the Library, such as applying efects, adding
masks, and convert to 3D.
Although the embedded method adds the video to Flash like any other
imported content, it has some disadvantages that limit its use. The
disadvantages of using the embedded method are:
• If the imported video is larger than 120 seconds, you may face some
trouble, especially in sound synchronization.
• The video is limited to 16000 frames, which is the maximum length of
the Flash timeline. Adding Flash content of more than 16000 frames may
not work properly.
• When playing the video on the web, the browser needs to download the
whole video irst before it can start to play it back.
• Adding video to the Flash ile increases its size dramatically.
It is not easy to edit or update the video, as you need to open Flash to
edit the video or import it again.
This method is not secured, as the video source must be downloaded to
the local machine before playback can start.
There is another method to import an FLV ile into Flash: with the embedded
method directly to the Library panel. This option works only with FLV video;
it imports the video directly to the library, from where you can drag it to the
stage. You can import iles to the library through the following steps:
1. Open a new document in Flash.
2. Open the Library panel from the Window menu or press CTRL + L (CMD +
L on the Mac).
