consumes a lot of processing resources. Preparing Photoshop 3D animation
for Flash involves exported iles sizes, dimensions, and the number of the
exported sequence images.
File Size
When exporting 3D animation from Photoshop as video or sequenced
images, the animation includes a large number of bitmap sequences that
can dramatically afect the total ile size. Size optimization is one of the
important tasks when exporting content. For example, if you have a 3D
animation that includes 120 frames of image sequence and each frame is
10 Kbs, the sum of the animation will be 1.2 MB. This can be large—if you
are creating a web banner animation, for example. If you can halve the
image sizes by optimizing them, the total animation size will be 600 k,
which is better!
In the following example, you will learn how to optimize sequenced images
for animation before exporting them to Flash:
1. Open the Photoshop animation document PsdFlash.psd. This ile includes
3D animation for a Photoshop logo that we will take to Flash to create a
Flash banner.
2. To maintain the transparency of the animation we must export the
animation as either GIF or PNG format. I do not recommend GIF, as it
reduces the colors in a way that creates lower-quality images, and if you
increase the quality of the exported image, it will result in larger iles.
I recommend PNG. Although there are other formats that support
transparency, these two are the best for the web and are commonly used
over the Internet. Choose File

>
Render Video.
3. In the Render Video dialog box (Figure 14.1), select the QuickTime Export
checkbox, and click the Setting button to open the Image Sequence
dialog box.
4. In Format drop-down list, choose PNG.
5. Click the Options button, and set the color option to Millions of Colors
+
.
This option maintains transparency (Figure 14.2).
This setting exports the animation in a transparent PNG image sequence. If
your animation does not support transparency, then JPEG is a better choice
for the exported content, as it results in smaller iles and the ability to control
the images quality:
1. Follow the previous steps, but choose JPEG as the export format for the
animation.
2. Click the Options button to open the JPEG dialog box.
3. Set the quality of the exported images through the Quality slider.
The Least quality produces a low size and low quality. The Best value
produces the highest quality possible and the highest size.
