FLV Flash Video
The FLV format is a Flash video encoding format that uses diferent video
compression technologies to provide a low ile size with high-quality video
content. The format is mainly to produce content that is compatible with
other Adobe technologies and tools such as After Efects, Flash, Flex, and AIR.
However, it is also used to deliver video over the web using diferent Flash
methods such as streaming and progressive video.
The streaming format delivers video as packets that allow many users to
receive similar content simultaneously, as in online e-learning courses. This
method does not save the video to the local drive, which is more secure for
video delivery. Video footage that you do not want to be available on the
user's machine can be secured this way, such as streaming tutorial sessions
that you want the user to see on a website without giving him or her the
ability to download it.
The progressive download format delivers video in batches, while you play
the video. This method is less secure, as it saves the video to the local
machine.
Note: I cover the usage
of FLV content into
Flash in Chapter 14,
where we'll dig deeper
into both progressive
and streaming video for
a better understanding
of how to implement
Photoshop animation in
Flash using FLV video.
