In-Depth Information
Note: You can choose one or more rendering options at the same time to
merge the rendering options. For example, when you select both Face and
Edges rendering options, the rendered object will display both the faces
and the edges of the object in the render results.
After setting the render options, you can preview the results through the 3D
menu by choosing Render for Final Output.
Rendering Examples
Now, let's merge this knowledge by using the render option, along with
some tips and tricks in Photoshop.
The irst exercise is to create a 3D model for the pyramids in Egypt that
explores what's inside the pyramid by using the cross-section. We will also
use both the Face and Edge render options to create the efect of wireframes
in the pyramid structure.
In this example, I have used a DAE model for the pyramid, as the model
should include a lot of edges and segments to show the structure:
1. Open the ile 3d_pyramids.psd in this chapter's folder on the DVD. This
Photoshop ile includes a 3D pyramid model that has a texture applied
to it (Figure 12.12).
2. While the pyramid layer is selected, choose 3D Scene from the 3D panel.
3. Set the render preset to Two-Side.
4. Set the quality to Ray Trace Draft or Final for more smooth edges.
5. Select Cross Section to slice the 3D model.
6. Uncheck the Plane to hide the plane.
7. Set the plane axis to Y.
8. For the Ofset value, choose + 5.
9. Set the Tilt A value to -155.
10. Set the Tilt B value to -5.
In the following steps, we will duplicate the model. The new model will have
only the Edges render option:
1. Duplicate the pyramid layer and remove the Cross Section.
2. Open the Render Option dialog box.
3. Uncheck the Face options and activate the Edges option.
4. Set the Edges option to Constant.
5. Change the color of the edges to dark brown.
6. Set the Crease Threshold and the Line Width to 1.
Next, we will fade the Edges structure to give the appearance as if were an
extension of the main building:
