In-Depth Information
Although the orthographic view does not look natural because it neglects
one of the important concepts in the view, the concept of perspective, it is
useful when trying to identify the object's dimensions and scale without
being deceived by perspective.
Note: You can access the
3D Camera control tools
from the 3D panel
through the icons on
the left under the 3D
scene layer structure.
Camera Views
Working with a 3D graphic can be deceiving, because the human eye sees
two dimensions better than the third dimension, mainly because of the
perspective factor. If your eye is not trained well, you cannot depend on it
completely to sense the depth or the third dimension of the model.
However, most 3D applications provide multiple views in the workspace to
allow the user to view the object from diferent positions, which provides
more control and makes it easier to work with the 3D content, because it
allows you to see the model from diferent views and edit the model based
on the best view of the part that you would like to modify.
Although Photoshop does not provide this multiple-view workspace like
other 3D applications, it provides you with the Views drop-down list that you
can use to switch between existing views or to create your own custom views.
The 3D Views drop-down list appears on the Properties toolbar when you
click the 3D Camera tool in the Tools toolbar. However, you can choose any
of the available views that let you view the object in 3D, such as the Front,
Back, Right, Left, Top, and Bottom.
In this exercise, we open the 3Dspace_ship ile and change its view:
1. Open the ile 3Dspace_ship.psd.
2. Click the 3D Camera tool or press the N key shortcut.
3.
In the Properties toolbar, click the View drop-down menu and choose
from the diferent 3D object views.
Custom Views
When you change the position of the 3D object, the current view changes to
create a new Custom View; this view can be a special view for the 3D model
or scene that is not listed in the Views drop-down list. Although you can
create as many custom views as you like, you can save these custom views
for further reference:
1. Open the ile 3Dspace_ship.psd.
2. Click on the 3D Camera tool. Notice that the view is set to Default.
3. Click the 3D Camera Rotate tool.
4. Drag over the spaceship to change the camera rotation. Notice that the
view is changed to Custom View 1.
5. Click the Save the current view icon next to the View list.
