dragging over the object or through the Orientation values in the Properties
toolbar.
Comparing the position of both the 3D object and the camera in the 3D
space, you will notice diferences in both locations' values. You can change
the camera view using the numerical values to change the view of the
model. However, you can reach the model view by using both the 3D Object
and 3D Camera tools, which will have diferent position values for each of
them to reach same model view.
Changing the camera orbit by dragging over the object is slightly diferent
from the 3D rotation for the object:
Note: While any of the
3D Camera tools in the
toolbar is selected, you
can use the 3D-Axis tool
to control the camera. I
covered how to use the
3D-Axis tool in detail in
Chapter 5.
1. Select the object and choose the 3D Camera Rotate tool.
2. Click and drag the mouse around the object.
3. When you drag over the object to the right, the camera moves to the
right.
4. When you drag over the object to the left, the camera moves to the left,
and a twisted-to-left arrow appears.
5. When you move the mouse up or down, the mouse shape changes to
the up and down arrow to show you that the camera will rotate around
the object vertically.
You can use the 3D Orbit tool to animate the camera around the object
without afecting the object position itself. For instance, you might want
to create an animation that navigates around the object to reveal its
hidden sides.
When you use the 3D Rotate tool and the 3D Camera Rotate tool, notice the
diference between the two tools:
The 3D Rotate tool rotates the object itself. However, when you drag the
object, it moves in the same direction of the mouse.
The 3D Camera Rotate tool rotates the camera that views the object.
So, dragging with the mouse over the object, notice that the object is
moving in the opposite direction of the mouse (Figure 10.2).
3D Roll View
The 3D Roll View tool rotates the camera in the Z direction only. However,
when you roll the camera, you do not afect the object at all: only the camera
is rolled in the opposite direction of the mouse:
Shortcut: Press N on the
keyboard to activate the
3D Camera tool.
1. Open a new Photoshop document.
2. Choose 3D > New Layer from 3D File.
