The result is a sphere with an irregular surface of more depth and height, as
seen in Figure 6.16.
New Volume from Layers
Here is another option that lets you convert a group of 2D layers to a 3D
object by compiling them. The diference is that the created 3D layer has a
transparent volume. We used to do have to create this efect manually, but
now we are able not only to create this efect automatically, but also give it a
3D volume efect that allows you to animate it through the timeline in the
3D dimensions.
The following example will give you a better idea of the volume method and
how to use it to create a volume efect for a 2D text layer:
1. Create a new Photoshop ile.
2. Using the gradient methods, create a new gradient with the same
Photoshop logo color scheme.
3. In the Gradient Editor, set the irst color on the right to #0551b9, and
the irst color on the left to be #063370.
4. Use the Gradient tool to apply the gradient by dragging over the
document from bottom right to top left.
5. Use the text tool to create the irst text layer. Type in the text
“Photoshop” in white (Figure 6.17).
6. Duplicate the text layer twice (drag the layer to the New Layer icon at
the bottom of the Layers panel or click CTRL + J [CMD + J on the Mac]).
