tion from 1938 to 1941. Interestingly, figure 20.4 shows the LIC of the same illness,
this time representing the case of the known cosmologist Stephen Hawking. The
curve shows the debut of the condition in his twenties, a tracheotomy that resulted
into a permanent aphonia in his forties and some severe infectious disorders at his
sixties.

Figure 20.5 shows the LIC of a patient affected by type-1 diabetes mellitus that
debuts at 15 years old, is correctly diagnosed and is treated adequately by means
of insulin therapy, diet and exercise. As can be seen, under such circumstances the
