11.7.12 Project Execution and Monitoring
During execution of the project, you and/or the Pm should be doing the following:
•  report on the progress of the project.
•  meet with stakeholders to keep them informed about the project and its progress.
•  Ensure project is on track and in control as planned in the project management
plan and project baseline.
•  Identify possible changes to the project.
•  Assess proposed changes to the project.
•  Identify corrective actions.
•  Identify areas for improvement and recognize items that went well, document-
ing these as lessons learned and taking any corrective actions if necessary (this
should be performed throughout the project and not only at the end).
monitoring the project's progress against plan is critical so that the health of the project
can be accurately assessed and reported. Proper monitoring will address the last two suc-
cess factors in managing your project: how much work has been completed and describe
known issues and risks facing the project. Progress should be analyzed and monitored
considering all aspects of the project's scope, timeline, financials, resources, risk, quality,
and communications. once the project has begun, monitoring becomes a continuous
cycle of work, progress measurement, status reporting, corrective action, and more work.
11.7.12.1 Status Reporting Project Status reporting provides information to help ensure
projects are delivered on time and on budget with the specified quality. Project status
reports should seek to:
•  Provide an early warning system to team members that allow them to adjust
their work effort accordingly.
•  Provide information to help ensure projects are delivered on time and on bud-
get with the specified quality.
•  Provide an assessment of program and project performance on an ongoing
basis relative to plans, objectives, staffing, and life balancing.
