9. on the Information tab, change the type from numeric to text.
10. underneath that select the list created in Step #3.
11. Click ok and Save.
note that the aggregation symbol for the member will automatically be changed to a
caret, which means “never Consolidate member.”
using Date measures is the simplest of the three functions to implement. once a
Date measure is set up, there are a number of formulas that work with regards to this
member. Some examples of calculations you could perform in BSo cubes:
•  @toDAy: For instance, calculate the time between the data in the field and
today. useful if you were to store something like a hire date and want to know
length of employment as of today.
•  @DAtEDIFF: Could be used to calculate the difference between two different
Date measures that have been captured. maybe you captured Date of Purchase
and Date of Warranty Expiration and want to calculate the amount of time left
on Warranties.
mDx versions of both of these examples exist for ASo cubes as well. of interest is
the fact that there are three more functions available to ASo cubes than are available to
BSo cubes with Date measure Calculations.
once the outline is enabled to use typed measures, then Date measures can be set up
by following these steps:
1. In EAS, open the outline in outline Editor.
2. Create a member in the dimension tagged as accounts that the Date data will be
loaded to.
3. right-click on the new member and select Edit member Properties.
4. on the Information tab, change the type from numeric to Date.
5. In the outline properties, set a date format; All Date measures will use this same
format.
Note: you cannot use the Associate Format String for a Date measure.
6. Click ok and Save.
Before you go crazy, though, and start adding typed measures to all of your cubes,
understand that there are some functional and practical limitations to their use.
•  In BSo cubes: text and Date measures can be loaded at any level in contrast to
ASo cubes where they can only be loaded at level-0.
•  once typed measures are enabled for an outline, this cannot be reversed (reminder).
•  With text measures, your list can only be 1024 values in length (using a list that
even comes close to approaching this length will have detrimental effects on
query times).
•  Custom aggregations of text measures can only be done in BSo cubes; it is not
recommended to aggregate even a typed measures in ASo cubes.
•  typed measures are not supported when using partitions.
•  text lists are not restructured when an outline restructure is performed, so add
new members to the bottom of the list to avoid altering the mapping of existing
items in the list.
•  Exports that contain text measures and Date measures cannot be reimported;
these cause the import to fail.
