Hearing aids
Hearing aids is the field where 3D printing has become a true success story. Over 90 % of
[xxi]
hearing aids are manufactured using 3D printing
(usually stereolithography). There are
[xxii]
over 10 million 3D printed hearing aids being worn by people worldwide
. The earlier
manufacturing process included nine steps and took a week. Making hearing aids with 3D
[xxiii]
printing includes 3 steps: scanning, modeling and printing, and takes one day
. Envi-
siontec is a major player in this market as a 3D printer supplier. Danish Widex is special-
ized in this field as a tech service company and has developed an almost invisible 3D prin-
ted micro hearing aid and the “CAMISHA” process (Computer-Aided-Manufacturing-For-
Individual-Shells-For-Hearing-Aids) which is used widely throughout the industry. Other
players in this field are Siemens and Phonak.
