Electronics
In the future electronic products might be printed in one piece instead of assembled as they
are now. The possibility of enclosing electronics in 3D printed objects is experimented with
in several areas, for example by the company 4 AXYZ that develops “smart furniture” with
embedded electronics. An interesting development is the 3D printing of circuit boards, one
example is the launch of the EX1 (eventually renamed Argentum) a low cost circuit board
printer which was introduced for a Kickstarter fund raising in the fall of 2013 by the Aus-
tralian start-up Cartesian Co. The line between 2D and 3D printing might be hard to tell
when it comes to printed circuits. The aerosol jet technique is used for printing circuits,
American company Optomec is big in this field, but it is hard to say if it is 2D or 3D print-
ing.
