Product safety and quality control
Suppose that you buy a safety helmet in form of a digital file from a company online. After
printing out the helmet on your 3D printer you grab your skateboard and go outside, but just
down the block you fall, crack your helmet and crack your skull. Who is liable in this case?
The supplier of the file because of faulty design? Or you because your 3D printer is a crappy
home-designed budget junk? Or is the material supplier the culprit?
This is just one of many cases that might be hard to decide on in the future. High-risk
products like airplane parts and 3D printed guns are likely to add job hours for law firms and
insurance companies.
