is an opportunity to introduce children and their parents to food tourism and

Off-Farm Entertainment
More and more farmers have realized they can combine the rural setting,
interest in food tourism and development of off-farm entertainment to gen-
erate income. The options are as wide as you can think, the major ones to
consider include the following.
Events, shows and festivals
Fig. 5.2. Ludlow Food Festival.
The Country or State Agricultural Show has been a feature of the rural com-
munity for many years. It has always been an event where city and rural
communities get together to celebrate farming and agriculture in the local
community. This need not just be a yearly event and may be held on-farm or
off-farm depending on the location and desire.
The USA is the place for events and festivals and we can learn a lot
from that part of the world where festivals are one of the fastest growing
events to attract tourists and one of the premier tourist attractions in the
country.
