In-Depth Information
Hot mulled wine is one of the essential ingredients of a European
market. This can be accompanied by almond cake, gingerbread and trdlo
(grilled rings of sweet bread dipped in ground almonds and sugar). Local
chestnuts are often roasted as is a pig placed on a spit along with local saus-
ages. Many local producers will also make up food hampers full of local
foods and gifts.

The value of community gardens in Cuba was highlighted in the 2006
documentary, The Power of Community: How Cuba survived Peak Oil. After
the fall of the Soviet Union in 1990 Cubans developed community gardens
when oil imports halved.
John was raised in Birmingham in a terrace house where the only way
