Details
People
Employees are used to carrying an identification
badge. This badge is not currently RFID enabled,
nor have employees been asked to register a
biometric reading for use by the organization.
Policy
Currently policy does not require biometric
registration. Policy should reflect this as a
requirement for employment with notable
exceptions for a minority who may not have
fingers with which to register. The need for policy
is also to ensure the biometric requirement
applies to all employees capable of providing
such.
Business process
The current business process of manually
checking identifications is inaccurate and causes
lines to build up during peak entry/exit times.
Systems and applications
The current systems and applications may
accommodate the RFID technical requirements.
The new RFID systems and fingerprint readers are
compatible with existing networks, servers,
databases, and applications.
Data/information
The data requirements may be met by existing
databases and applications.
Infrastructure
The additional bandwidth utilization, data center
space, and processing times are all within the
capacity of existing infrastructure.
Internal to the organization
TBD
External to the organization
The organization must prepare to deal with
external entities who may question or object to
the use of biometrics and the requirement for
biometric registration as a condition of
employment. The external entities who may raise
a question include the union and civil liberties
organizations. This point should not be hit too
hard, but reasonable preparation with legal
guidance will provide management and media
spokespeople with a consistent message.
