In-Depth Information
IA 2 views and IA core principles may have inluences from these external and
internal compliance requirements.
Subsets of these apply in varying degrees to the current phase of the enterprise
life cycle management (ELCM). The ELCM phases provide for the conception ,
architecture , engineering , development or acquisition , implementation , testing , deploy-
ment , and retirement of a solution. A solution may be a business service, technical
service, or system. Finally, there is compliance verification to assure the IA prepa-
rations actually work as intended. Compliance verification ensures the final solu-
tion satisfies compliance requirements. Figure 2.1 shows the ELCM operation and
maintenance (O&M) phase in more detail as an expansion of one ELCM phase.
O&M is a large part of a solution's total cost of ownership. The details of O&M
warrant particular attention.
An underlying taxonomy within the IA 2 Framework is the IA 2 line of sight
(IA 2 LoS). he IA 2 LoS begins with business requirements and then aligns sub-
sequent classes with increasing technical focus and narrowing of detail. Business
requirements drive architectural specifications, which are often in abstract terms,
that include principles and philosophies that describe the best way to satisfy the
business requirements. O&M requires actual products and services that perform
tasks and produce results. The IA 2 LoS provides a detailed alignment from abstract
business requirements and architectural specifications to the tangible constructs of
O&M. The discipline of applying the line of sight as part of the IA 2 Process ensures
a traceable alignment between solution investments and business requirements.
