Appendix B:
templates of iA 2 F Views
Table B.1 provides a template to capture details for the 6 IA 2 views by the 9 IA core
principles, or 54 granular views of IA. This table may capture insights with regard
to governance, management, building, operations, use, and leadership (the Orga-
nizational Context Framework [OCF]). If the table is applied to all six layers in the
OCF, there will 324 views of IA with an organizational context. One instance of
the table may capture governance insights with regard to compliance requirements
and strategic objectives. Another instance of the table may capture management
insights that convert strategic objectives to strategic plans, tactical objectives, and
tactical plans. Are 324 views too many? A better question for you, the IA architect,
is how many views are enough to satisfy the needs of the situation?
The other tables provide templates for variations on IA 2 F views. Which apply?
You know your situation best. This topic provides many tools to draw upon. he
use and application of the tools is situation dependent. The details from these tables
provide input to the application of the IA 2 Process of defining intent for the IA
(e.g., governance, strategic objectives); defining the environment for the IA applica-
tion (e.g., physical infrastructure, safety and comfort of people); and defining the
scope (e.g., business processes and the systems and applications that support them).
Define however many views are necessary to identify the risks, enumerate the risks,
articulate the risks, and address those risks.
Use of these tables is not a massive fill-in-the-blank exercise. Use these tables
as a guide to think about the situation in smaller parts, from various perspectives,
and in various contexts. Use these tables to discern the right questions about risk,
capture the answers, articulate options, and determine how to convey recommen-
dations in terms that will resonate with the audience.
