In order to perform this transformation in Geomagic Studio environment, the
following steps have to be accomplished:
Computing the contour lines
Extending the tangent lines
Filling all the existent gaps in the mesh
Computing the grid
Repairing the grid intersections if needed
Constructing the NURBS surfaces [

The surface generation phase ends by exporting the models as IGES format files.
7.2.4
Solid Generation
The IGES format files were imported into SolidWorks environment for further process-
ing. IGES is a standard CAD format for solid objects, designed to work with the major-
ity of CAD environments. This was the reason why this format type was chosen.
When diagnostic tool runs in SolidWorks, some of the surfaces are detected as
faulty or gaps. A faulty surface is sometimes generated by self-intersecting patches.
