Figure 6.158 sets out a general procedure for cleaning pipeline systems. This procedure is
appropriate only for a pipeline that has never been cleaned since it began operations or
for which data on past cleaning is not available or is unreliable.

Basic polyurethane foam cleaning devices
These are used as the first step in examining pipeline capacity. It is made from an elastic
foam material and along its circumference there is a polyurethane layer to decrease
friction and wear. This device is a a kind of searcher and in cases of partial pipeline
capacity its destruction (and disposal) can be very expensive. Such devices have a
capacity of 40 per cent of the nominal cross-section of the pipeline to determine capacity
more accurately a calibration plate with the size of the minimum capacity of the cleaning
