This ring was connected to the service walkway by means of stanchions made of a
double T bar 200. The stanchions were spaced around the shell at intervals of 1405 mm.
The stanchions were applied to tighten up the deformed plates of the shell by a yoke with
set screws (Figure 6.126). In the area that presented more difficulty in eliminating the
deformation, the spacing of the stanchions was closer (Figure 6.127). When the shell
plates were fully stretched to the stanchions, continuous welds were made to join the
plate to the foot of the double T bar used for the stanchion. The welding was performed
using a step-back method.
