• Repair or replace vertical bracing in three planes that transfer longitudinal forces to the
vertical tower bracing (Figures 5.31 sections C-C and E-E) located so that production
processes in the hall of the foundry would not be interrupted.
Figure 5.32 A detail of the connection
of the roof structure to the vertical
bracing
Connecting the bracing through the vertical opening means they carry only horizontal
forces, so the role of the tie beam is not compromised by vertical loadings.
5.1.8 Reinforcement of the steel structure of a shipyard hall
Before modification, two electric bridge cranes with lifting power of 25 and 5 tonnes
(cranes No.22 and 23) were operating in hall No.15, with the possibility of coupling the
cranes so they operating together. Due to the increasing size and weight of assemblage
parts of ships, replacement of the 25 tonne crane in hall No.15 with a new bridge crane
with increased lifting power of 50 tonnes was considered. After some modifications to
the hall, two bridge cranes with 25 and 50 tonne lifting power were put in operation
(Figure 5.33).
