These repairs were done while the original roof deck was still in place. After their
completion the roof deck (Figure 5.17) and trusses (Figure 5.18) were replaced, and the
structure was completed by fitting roof stiffeners.
The repairs to the steel roof structures were carried out in confined conditions, without
interruption to operations in the adjoining halls. The situation with the other halls was
dealt with later in a similar way, i.e. by reinforcing the tie beams as well as the steel
