13.5.2 VARIATIONS IN ANNUAL RAINFALL
At all India level, there are some regional patterns in rainfall over the last
100 years. Increasing trend in monsoon rainfall is found along the west
coast, north Andhra Pradesh and north-west India, and those of decreasing
trend over east Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas, north-east India and
parts of Gujarat and Kerala (6 to 8% of normal over 100 years). Rainfall
analysis of data of 1140 stations in the country indicated that greater than
70% of the stations showed short-term fluctuations in annual rainfall for
less than 10 years period. A 20% rise in all India summer monsoon rainfall
and further rise in rainfall is projected over all states except Punjab, Rajas-
than and Tamil Nadu, which show a slight decrease.

IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE
13.5.3.1
POSITIVE IMPACT
Global climate change is expected to affect floricultural crops through its
direct and indirect effects. Scientific evidence suggests a positive effect of
increase in atmosphere CO 2 in C3 photosynthetic pathway promoting their
growth and productivity. Increased CO 2 will reduce evapo-transpiration
and thus increase in water-use efficiency.
