In-Depth Information
12.3.2.2 JASMINE
Low temperatures shut down flowering in jasmine (<19 °C) and lead to
reduction in flower size.
12.3.2.3 CARNATION
Whenever night temperature is less than 13 °C the deterioration of flower
quality due to calayx splitting.
12.3.2.4 JASMINE
In Jasminum sambac day time temperatures of 27-32 °C and night time
temperatures of 21°-27 °C are ideal. If night temperatures fall below
19 °C, flower production and size are reduced. Mechanical flower forc-
ing by advancing pruning to September resulted in off-season flowering
with increased yield and quality (by offsetting abiotic stress caused by
low temperature). Among the Jasminum sambac varieties, Single mogra
performed best with respect to winter season flowering and peak season
flowering in terms of yield and quality.
12.3.2.5 CARNATION
Optimum temperature range of 13.3-23.8 °C has been reported for pro-
ducing quality with least calyx splitting.
12.3.2.6
TROPICAL ORCHIDS
Flowers do not open up fully in tropical orchids wherever temperatures
below 15 °C. High temperature leads to flower bud drop and unmarketable
spikes in tropical orchids when temperature is >35 °C. In Dendrobium cv.
Sonia 17, the flower yield and quality have found to drastically reduce in
peak summer and winter months. Nutrition management has found to alle-
viate temperature stresses. Biweekly foliar spray of 1:6:1 NPK at 0.2% to
plants at flowering stage resulted in round the year flowering and increase
