Unity's Asset Store
These days, no chapter on assets would be complete without a trip to Unity's Asset Store. If you are
artistically challenged, you may find a wealth of assets, both free and for purchase. If you are at the
prototyping stage of your game, you may find it advantageous to spend a small amount of money for
proxy objects to test ideas and functionality. This can help save days of work by artists.
The drawback, of course, to buying assets available to anyone is that your game will not look
unique. Worse yet, if the art assets you chose to use were already used on a less-than-stellar game,
it could impact the sales and reception of your own game just by association. A prototype using
recognizable, existing assets may give the impression that you lack imagination, so always be sure
to make it clear where and why they were used.
Scripting assets, on the other hand, can be a big help when there is no need to re-invent the wheel.
The caveat to this one is that if you don't know enough scripting to understand how they work in the
first place, you may have problems integrating them into your own project.
