3.
From the Edit menu, select Project Settings, Player.
4.
In the Other Settings section, Rendering Path, select Deferred Lighting.
If you do not have Unity Pro, you will not be able to use Deferred Lighting. If you do have Unity Pro,
you should see the sharper, dynamic shadows at close range and the softer, baked shadows beyond
that range (Figure 2-68 ).
Figure 2-68. Dynamic shadows at close range, and baked shadows beyond them, Pro Only
Dynamic shadows are more costly than baked shadows, so Unity allows you to adjust the distance
where the dynamic shadows blend into the lightmapped shadows.
If you are not using Unity Pro, you have two choices. You can have baked shadows and no dynamic
shadows, or you can have dynamic shadows and no baked shadows. You will have to Clear the
lightmaps in the Lightmapping view (next to the Bake Scene button) to get back to your dynamic
shadows.
5.
With the Lightmapping window open, experiment with the Shadow distance,
setting it to 40 when you are finished.
6.
If you are using Pro, select the Directional light from the Hierarchy view and
adjust its shadow Strength to match the baked shadows.
You will be revisiting baked light later in the topic after you have added static structures to your
game scene.
