Figure 2-64. The sky in the test scene
7.
If the sky does not show, click the Effects drop-down arrow at the top of the
Scene view and make sure Skybox is checked.
8.
Navigate the Scene view to see how the sky is presented.
As you probably noticed, Render Settings is also the place to add fog to a scene.
9.
Click the Fog check box to see fog in your scene.
10.
Adjust the color, and experiment with the Density.
Because the fog does not affect the skybox, consider using it as more of a ground mist. If you want
a proper London fog, you would not use a skybox.
Shadows
With the addition of dynamic shadows for direct lights in the free version of Unity, you have probably
noticed that the shadows fade off fairly close to the scene camera (Figure 2-65 ). The distance can
be adjusted, but you may opt, depending on the type of game you want to create, to add “baked”
shadows for the rest of the terrain. In Unity 5, the current lighting system, the Beast lightmapper,
will be retired to Legacy status. As the date of that release is not yet known, you will do a little bit of
experimenting with the current system.
