T HE V ISAYAS
ANGELINA
Eating
Dine indoors or on the beach at classy Angelina, which boasts a romantic spot on a sandy
cove at Poblacion Beach, Cebu. It has an authentic menu based on northern Italian recipes
including pizzas, handmade pastas and seafood risotto. Many ingredients are imported
from Italy and there's an extensive wine list.
STK TA BAY! SA PAOLITO'S SEAFOOD HOUSE
Eating
Family heirlooms leave no space unfilled in this large Cebu ancestral home-turned-restaur-
ant and it's hard to shake the feeling you might be dining in an antique store. Tuna belly
cooked on the charcoal grill comes smoky and crisp and Jerry's crab curry is a favourite.
L'ELEPHANT BLEU
Eating
The electric-blue VW parked out front makes for a stylish first impression, and the food at
this casual French restaurant backs it up. The flambéed garlic prawns are exceptional. Cult
movies are screened on Monday nights in its beer garden. Located at Alona Beach.
KUKUK'S NEST
Nightlife
This grungy 24-hour Cebu City restobar has an interesting mix of locals and expats. Plastic
tables and chairs out front provide a laid-back atmosphere ideal for meeting people and a
convenient place to finish up after all the other bars close.
HANGAR
Nightlife
You can't miss this nightlife precinct in Lahug (Cebu City) flagged by a giant plane sus-
pended at the entrance. It's a semioutdoor space with independently owned bars and clubs
competing for the attention of the younger rowdy crowd.
JUNGLE
Nightlife
Isolated on a cove at the back side of the island, hippy, trippy Jungle bar is known in Bora-
cay for three-day full-moon parties and its notorious 'F*** you Archie' cocktail. Often
quiet or dead; just as often raucous.
