N ORTH L UZON
LOG CABIN
Eating
One of Sagada's many wonderful surprises is this aptly named eatery. The Western-style
food is hearty and elegantly presented. To top it off there's a good wine list and fireplace.
You must drop by in the morning to place your order.
CAFE BY THE RUINS
Eating
Baguio's most beloved restaurant specialises in Cordillera-inspired Filipino dishes: try the
eggplant omelette with carabao (buffalo) cottage cheese for breakfast, or the suman at tso-
colate (hot chocolate and sticky-rice cake) for afternoon tea. The interior is awash with art,
foliage and sculpted wood.
HILL STATION
Eating
Welcome to the most creative and ambitious restaurant in Baguio. The menu reads like a
foodie's fantasy tour of the world: crispy slow-cooked duck flakes, beef stewed in cinna-
mon and oregano, and roasted Mediterranean vegetables. Not all dishes win, but the food is
pretty wonderful overall, and custom cocktails are even better.
VIGAN WEAVERS
Shopping
Vigan weavers here use abel (a locally produced fabric), to handweave shawls, tablecloths,
napkins and barong (traditional Filipino shirts). Higher-quality binakol , including some an-
tique blankets from nearby Abra Province, are for sale at Mira Furniture and at many shops
lining Crisologo St.
LEGACY
Nightlife
Legacy is conservative Vigan's concession to nightlife. On the inside it resembles a New
York lounge misplaced in Ilocos. Thumping bass and electronic music shakes the walls;
Wednesday is ladies night (one free beer, girls), and on Thursdays there's ballroom dan-
cing.
