BONTOC MUSEUM
Museum
The wonderful Bontoc Museum is, quite simply, the best in North Luzon. Powerful black-
and-white photos and indigenous music accompany the exhibits - one for each of the re-
gion's main tribes. Naturally, the headhunter exhibits, which display axes used to do the
deed and gansa (gong) handles made from human jawbones, are the most fascinating.
CHURCH OF ST JAMES
Church
Built by the Augustinians in 1609, the Church of St James in the Bolinao town plaza is not-
able for its Mexican influences. On its antique altar are two tongue-protruding, Aztec-like
statues said to have been brought by early traders (but they're almost certainly not from the
Americas).
