Travel by Ferry
Ferry rides in Maine are more than just a form of transportation to off-
shore islands. They are an adventure unto themselves. Rides range from
the Maine Ferry Service's regular vehicle runs to year-round communi-
ties such as Swans Island and Vinalhaven, to trips on privately operated
mail boats, which often are little more than overgrown lobster fishing
vessels.
Either way, the scenery can't be beat, the salt air is great and there is no
limit on the amount wildlife you may spot. Many folks take ferry rides
just to enjoy the salty air and crashing waves.
