State Parks
Lily Bay State Park, Beaver Cove : Located on the eastern
shore of Moosehead Lake not far from Greenville, this is one of
the prettiest parks in Maine. Lakeside campsites, picnic
ground, swimming beach, two boat ramps, dump station, great fishing,
playground, toilets. On Lily Bay Road.

Moosehead Lake is big water and should not to be taken lightly. Still, the
park makes the best jumping-off place for paddlers and boaters planning
to visit remote campsites on Sugar Island, a very large undeveloped is-
land in the middle of the lake.

Mattawamkeag Wilderness Park, Mattawamkeag : Run by the
town, this 1,000-acre forested preserve along the Mattawamkeag River is
a great place to hike, fish, swim or camp. Scenic falls. Campground with
toilets, lean-tos, picnic grounds and showers. Located on the end of a long
dirt road (The Park Road), off Route 2.

Peaks-Kenny State Park, Dover-Foxcroft : Situated on Sebec Lake,
this modest-sized park is seldom visited by tourists. Good fishing, sand
swimming beach with bath house and toilets, picnic grounds, camping
with dump station, boating, and canoeing. Take Route 153 out of Dover-
Foxcroft as far as you can, then follow the signs.

Wildlife Refuges
Owens Marsh Wildlife Area, Concord Township : One mile
west of the Kennebec River just south of Bingham off Route 16,
this 45-acre marshy area was set aside in 1998 as prime migra-
tory waterfowl habitat. A trail leads to an old dam which was partially re-
stored to restablish the marsh. Off Route 16.
