Augusta
The majority of places in Augusta are fast-food joints, which
you'll have no problem seeing as you drive through town. One
establishment is worth a special mention:
The Senator, Inn and Spa , Western Avenue at I-95, Augusta 04330.
This modern motel is often a hub of political intrigue in the state's capi-
tal. Politicians and those seeking to curry their favor frequently gather
for lunch in the hotel restaurant or toss back a few brews in the lounge.

Bangor
Bangor's restaurant scene is being slowly overrun by chains such as Out-
back Steak House, Red Lobster, etc. Still, the number of independently-
owned establishments remains high. There is something for every taste
in this city from, Indian cooking to vegetarian.
Captain Nick's , 1165 Union Street (across from airport entrance), Ban-
gor 04401. Family restaurant and lounge with one of the broadest menus
in Eastern Maine. Seafood is a specialty, but steaks are great too. Daily
lunch and dinner specials. Their triple lobster special is unique in Maine.
Full cocktail service. Moderate.

Dysart's Truck Stop , Exit 44 off I-95, Bangor 04401. This sprawling
truck stop's food is hot, a lot of it is brown, and there's plenty of it. It's de-
licious enough to make it a favorite spot for all who visit. Open 24 hours a
day with traditional diner fare such as fried seafood and steaks. Break-
fast available at any hour. Daily specials. Inexpensive. You can ask for
gravy on your French fries (a favorite with Canadians) without anyone
raising an eyebrow.

Lemon Tree , 167 Center Street, Bangor 04401. This funky establish-
ment offers a unique menu featuring vegetarian and pasta entrées as
well as fresh seafood. Full cocktail service. Live jazz and blues on Friday
and Saturday nights. Open weekdays for lunch, Monday through Satur-
day for dinner. Moderate to expensive.

Miller's Restaurant , 427 Main Street, Bangor 04401. Home of one of
the world's largest salad bar, featuring more than 200 items. Many folks
make a meal from that alone! Full menu and cocktail service. The second
dining room, The Lion, features fresh seafood, prime rib and the estab-
lishment's signature sirloin. Off-track betting parlor located in the back.
