tour, which winds from Augusta, the state capital, to the antique-filled
town of Hallowell, and over quiet country roads through the beautiful sur-
rounding lakes region.
Route: Start in Augusta , site of historic Fort Western , the beautiful
Blaine House , which serves as the Governor's residence, and the Maine
State Museum . Take Route 27/201 south to Hallowell , home to numer-
ous charming antiques shops. Take 201 to Richmond Corner , then
head west on 197 to Litchfield Corners . Head north on secondary road
toward Litchfield to the junction of 126; take 126 west to the intersection
of 132, just before Sabattus. Take 132 north to Monmouth, site of the
Queen Anne-style Cumston Hall .
