with local residents, Chase's features good Down East food and real home

Brew Pubs/Microbreweries
If Jed Clampet and the rest of the Beverly Hillbillies were
microbrew aficionados they would have loaded up the truck and
headed east to Bar Harbor. In recent years this picturesque
town by the sea, surrounded on the land side by the mountains and trails
of Acadia National Park, has seen a boom in microbreweries and pubs.
Even more are in the planning stages.
Bar Harbor
Atlantic Brewing Company/Lompoc Café and Brewpub , 30 Rodick
Street. A wide variety of beers are available, including Bar Harbor Real
Ale, Bar Harbor Blueberry Ale, Ginger Wheat Ale, Coal Porter, Lompoc's
Pale Ale and seasonals. The menu focuses on, of course, Maine seafood as
well as Mediterranean entrées and vegetarian dishes. After hours the
pub, with its outdoor bocce court, is a favorite hangout for a varied cast
ranging from local hippie capitalists to students from the nearby College
of the Atlantic. Tours daily at 4 pm. Gift shop open daily in season.

Bar Harbor Brewing Company , Route 3, Otter Creek. This firm's Ca-
dillac Mountain Stout won a Platinum award in 1996 from the Beverage
Tasting Institute. They are also well known for Thunder Hole Ale, named
for a feature in Acadia National Park, as well as Harbor Lighthouse Ale
and in season Bar Harbor Peach Ale and Ginger Mild Ale. Call ahead for
tour times.

The small place that is big on beer. Brews include Bar Harbor Gold, Great
Head Ale, named for a prominent headland in Acadia, Redneck Ale, Eden
