Oldest building in eastern Maine, only one with Revolutionary War his-
tory. Reputed to be place where plot to engage in first naval battle of Rev-
olution was hatched.

Fort O'Brien Site (Fort Machias 1775), Route 92. The British drove the
earliest defenders of Fort O'Brien from the site in 1775. Refortified in
1777 and destroyed during a British naval offensive in 1814.
