State & Town Parks
Cobscook Bay State Park, Edmunds . Scenic and less-visited
park with campsites right along the bay where tides roil and boil
twice each day (current can be very dangerous). Off US 1. Hiking
and nature trails through 900 acres. Other activities include fishing, pic-
nicking, berry picking, boat launching ramp, winter use. Showers and
dump station.

Holbrook Island Preserve, Brooksville . This state-owned preserve
covering nearly two square miles is one of the best kept secrets in Down
East Maine. Hiking trails, including several along the bay, picnicking
and good views. Nearby is Goose Falls, a tidal rapid that switches direc-
tion with the tide. Parking available.

Lamoine State Park . Located off Route 184 in Lamoine, this park is a
favorite with locals seeking to escape the crush of the crowds in Acadia.
The surf may never be up but the views of Acadia's mountains are spec-
tacular. There are changing and bathroom facilities, a campground, dock,
and public boat launching area. Plenty of parking. There is an entrance
fee.

McLellan Park, Milbridge . Local recreation area with campsites, toi-
lets, hiking, picnicking and good views of the coast Down East. Adequate
parking. Make camping arrangements at the town office.

Quoddy Head State Park, Lubec . You can't get any farther east than
this and still be in the United States. Picturesque red-and-white striped
lighthouse on spectacular rocky headland. Hiking trails through 475
acres and along towering cliffs at seaside. Some of the highest tides on
the east coast. Mile-long bog boardwalk. Entrance fee. Good parking.

Shackford Head, Eastport . Great views of Eastport and vicinity from
the point on Cobscook Bay near Eastport after a 10-minute walk through
the woods. Picnicking, hiking, adequate parking. A 90-acre park. Out-
house at trailhead.
